Today, being the dawn of a new technology wave, analyze and evaluate the performance of a single phase semiconverter with one thyristor have promised a new beginning to a wide spectrum of fields where a bridge rectifier can be used conjunction with an SCR as variable DC sources to control DC loads. In this final year project, a single-phase semiconverter is built by combining a single-phase bridge rectifier circuit and a thyristor (silicon controlled rectifier type, SCR). This final year project describes the operation of a single-phase semiconverter halfcontrolled rectifier. Output voltage of rectifier is varied by controlling the delay of thyristor. The variable output voltage and current is formed by varying the firing angle of SCR. The performance of the circuit is observed with a variable load resistor and DC motor load. Typical application of phase control rectifier is variable speed drives in process control and materials handling, such as those for pumping, ventilation, conveyers, compressors and hoists.en_US
