    Abstract
Breast cancer is known to be the most frequent cancer diagnosed in the United States, marked the second place of cancer-causing deaths for women. Most researches performed experiments using forward scattering transmission which used transmitter and receiver combinational setup. The setup was not cost effective as a transceiver device; a single device transmission can perform both transmitting and receiving purpose for a more economical benefit. Ultra Wideband (UWB) application detection techniques were used, to detect tumour based on signals reflected. The application of backward scattering transmission for tumour detection is studied in this project. The average efficiency results of tumour detection of different sizes and positions of each antenna is calculated and recorded. The efficiencies are as follows ; pyramidal antenna with reflector (60.88%), omnidirectional antenna (63.26%), horn antenna (74.81%), and pyramidal antenna (76.05%). Hence the antenna that showed the best potential for tumour detection is pyramidal antenna. For homogeneous breast phantom, the best type of scattering recorded is backward scattering transmission at 69.90% detection efficiency. For heterogeneous breast phantom, the best type of scattering recorded was forward scattering transmission at 73.11% detection efficiency.
