Study of fabrication Al-Tin slag composite by powder metallurgy method
Abstract
In the present investigation, Aluminum-tin slag composite have been produced by powder
metallurgy (P/M) route. Aluminum (Al) and tin slag were undergo milling and sieving
process where particle size <75 µm and <63 µm for tin slag and aluminum were obtained.
Both Al and tin slag were mixed for 40 minutes with a speed of 100rpm. Both of the Al and tin slag powder were mixed by weight percent which is Al-5% of tin slag, Al-10% of tin slag, Al-15% of tin slag and Al-20% of tin slag correspond to sample A, B, C, D
respectively. Samples were compacted with the load of 5 tonne (180 Mpa) for 3 minutes.
The samples were placed in a tube furnace with nitrogen, N2 purified atmosphere at 600oC for 7 hours soaking time, with heating and cooling rate of 5oC/ min for 1 hour and 9
minutes respectively. Mechanical properties like shrinkage, hardness, density and porosity of Al-tin slag composite were investigated. All the samples experienced shrinkage. In increase addition of tin slag, hardness and density value was also increased. % of porosity decreased with the increased addition of tin slag. Microstructures of Al-tin slag composite
were also investigated. The microstructure of this Al-tin slag composite shows a uniform
distribution of tin slag in the Al matrix.
