A study case of dissimilar welding between mild steel ( Low Carbon Steel ) and stainless steel on hardness vickers and tensile shear test for gas tungsten arc welding ( GTAW )
Abstract
This report is about the experimental study on the effects of the dissimilar weld joint design, edge preparation and joint dimension on the weldability of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding ( GTAW ) between mild steel and stainless steel. The analysis that has been used in this experimental is hardness Vickers test and tensile shear test to determine the hardenability and strengthened of the welding joint. The joint that been used is Butt Weld joint and with three edge
preparation such as square edge, single V edge and single bevel edge. To observe the effect of hardness on the joints three area were carried out which is parent metal, heat affected zone (HAZ) and weld metal area for hardness testing. From the result obtained, it was found that the maximum load of tensile shear test is increases when it depends on the edge preparation and weld joint design. The best joint for this dissimilar welding is the Single V type.
