    Abstract
    Employing multiple transmit and receive antennas, namely using multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems, has proven to be major breakthrough in providing reliable wireless communication links. Since their invention in the mid 1990s, transmit diversity, achieved through space time coding and spatial multiplexing schemes have been the focus of much research in the area of wireless communications. Although much significant advancement has been made recently in MIMO communications, there is still much ongoing research in this area. In parallel to that, communication have already started looking into integrating MIMO systems in their current and future wireless communication systems. In fact, several standards for future wireless communication applications have already adopted MIMO systems as an option. Many of the concepts described here in are aimed at improving data rates, signal quality, capacity or system flexibility. Such multiantenna techniques are generally considered wireless data transmission systems. In MIMO systems, multiple antennas are deployed both at the transmitter and receiver. In ideal situations, this allows signaling over several parallel channels between the transmitter and receiver. These channels can be separated using signal processing means, provided that the channels are sufficiently different.
