dc.description.abstract | This study describes and discusses the design of a lekor snack extrusion machine
for application in lekor snack manufacturing industry. Lekor snack is a popular fishbased
snack in Malaysia. Although its shape is similar to that of fish burger or hotdog,
its production involves somewhat different processes. A survey has been done at the
LKIM Kuala Kedah to clearly understand the lekor snack manufacturing process and at
the same time to identify operation of the extruder machine. The extruder machine
design in this study uses the extrusion concept by means of direct extruder in polymer
industry with consideration in right specification of operation pressure and temperature.
At the same time, meat mincers in the market apply the same extrusion mechanism.
Reverse engineering has been done on the meat mincer in order to incorporate standard
design practice to a new design of extrusion machine. Related theory is also applied into
the machine design consideration. Mechanical components of the extruder machine are
designed using CATIA software. Each part of the designed machine is analyzed and
from the analysis the von mises stress or maximum load that can be withstood by the
components is determined so as to establish the right specification for the new design. | en_US |
