This study was conducted to determine the
relationship and influence of lecturers teaching approach of acquired competencies of children in the Teachers Graduation Programme (TGP) in UTHM. Aspects investigated lecturers teaching approach is teacherscentered teaching (TCT), student-centered (SC) and
material-centered (MC) while aspects student competency focuses on the pedagogical, personal, professional and sosial.
There are 92 respondents from the students enrolled in degree program in Technical and Vocational Education(Secondary School) in March 2011 as first intake. The findings of the study used questionnaires as research
instruments analyzed using the Statistical Packages for The Social Sciences (SPSS) for a score. Spearman Rho correlation analysis was employed to determine the relationship between lecturers teaching approaches to
student competency. Multiple linear regression analysis used to assess the influence of lecturers teaching approach
on student competence. Results showed that, (a) mean and TCT, SC is at high level while the mean score is average MC, (b) the level of student competence at high levels, (c)
there is a significant relationship between lecturers teaching approach to competency students (d) factors influencing lecturers teaching approach students competency in
significant. Results of this study will be beneficial for teachers, school management and subsequently the Ministry of Education Malaysia in improving the quality of products
produced by this program.
