Carbon nanotubes are tiny hollow cylinders, made from a single grapheme sheet, that possess many amazing properties. Another reason why nanotubes have generated intense research activities from scientists of various disciplines is they represent a new class of materials for the study of one-dimensional physics In this project we investigate the electrical transport of semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes and its applications as biosensors. Spurred by the Human Genome Project, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), carbon nanotube based biosensors are indispensable tools in molecular biology. We also design and fabricate the biosensor based carbon nanotube (CNT) and integrate carbon nanotube (CNT) with diameter of 1.2-1.5 nm and length of 2-5 μm onto device wafer using combination of dielectrophoresis and nanomanipulation. The biosensor based carbon nanotube fabricated is then will be characterized its electrical current characteristics and finally electrical testing for medical diagnostics application such as deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) hybridization.
