    Abstract
In this project, rock buttress design will be used for landslide remediation method using Finite Element Method (FEM) to achieve minimum requirement for safety factor based JKR Standard. Then, the parameters needed for the design which is soil and sandstones will be collected based on the rock and soil classification. Several surcharges loading which are 5 kN/m2, 10 kN/m2, 15 kN/m2 and 20 kN/m2 has been tested on the rock buttress design in order to know the safety factor. There two types of design has been tested using the software Plaxis 2. The difference between Type 1 rock buttress and Type 2 rock buttress is design of the berm. Based on the result, the safety factor for Type 1 is slightly higher compare to Type 2, thus Type 1 is more favored in the rock buttress design. All the result collected passed the minimum requirement of safety factor which is 1.3 based on JKR Standard. For the design itself, the effectiveness has been tested by comparing the safety factor based on the fill on the buttress. The result stated that rock-fill buttress Type 1 have 1.934 and rock-fill buttress Type 2 have 1.831 in safety factor compare to soil-fill buttress that have 1.129. Thus we can say that rock buttress design is very effective in order to prevent landslide or sliding of the soil. In conclusion, the design of rock buttress that can be used in on-site construction is Type 1 with the surcharge loading of 15 kN/m2.
