An assessment of indoor environmental quality in UniMAP's building
Abstract
Now days, when living cost is increasing through the year, the demand for green building concept become higher and it is relatively economic because green building concept ableto lower the operational cost and maintenance as well. In this research, through all elements in Green Building Index, (GBI) only Indoor Environmental Quality will be the
main focus. Sick building syndrome is one of effect when IEQ is not implemented
correctly to the building .In Malaysia the awareness on this green building concept is still less. One of the reason is the material for built the entire building is slightly increase compared to the any other commercial building. However the maintenance for green building concept and operational cost is less. Green building is a type of environmental friendly mankind and its less pollutant to other. Law in Malaysia does not require the developer to enforce the green building approach into consideration while designing the building. The awareness of green building and environmental conservation among Malaysian is still low. With the help of this research, it will hope to emphasize the benefits
and consequences of implementation and approach in green building in term of indoor
environmental quality (IEQ) concept. Universiti Malaysia Perlis UniMAP is an educational
building, it is important to assess the IEQ with the help to improve learning and teaching
process. A suitable mitigating measure and recommendation is proposed with the help to
improve the quality of work to staff and lecturer as well as student performance.
