    Abstract
Seismic force affecting structure by lateral motion, this gives impact especially to the base of high rise building. Hence, a calculator had been developed to predict shear base force in order to design anti-seismic structure. The main objective of this project is to develop a user friendly programme where seismic lateral force as known as base shear force can be computed efficiently. The coding equations and conditions would be base on EUROCODE 8: Design of Structures for Earthquake Resistance. In order to design a predictor, a programming software, Microsoft Visual Basic Express Edition 2008 is chosen so that conditions such as ground properties, structure properties and loading actions required for computing base shear force can be programmed. The product of this programme is base shear force, in accordance to condition and equation stated in EURCODE 8. The overall result obtained from Base Shear Force Predictor is checked by manual calculation and the difference between them is 0.04kN. By comparing with other existing product in market, Base Shear Force Predictor has more commercial value as the reference code of design is base on EUROCODE 8. However, there are several limitation for Base Shear Force Predictor to be improved as this programme is not intended to do structural analysis design, but for the purpose of computing seismic lateral force for the base of building.
