dc.description.abstract | Mango seed was used as partial replacement of sand. The replacement is done so
that cost in construction reduced. Preparation of the raw material which is mango seed is
easy. The mango seed is collected and let to dry. After manual drying for almost 48
hours the mango seed is crushing so shredding process can be done without using
massive man power. The seed then was sieved with size 4.75 mm so it will suitable to
replace sand. The seed was dried again using oven with 60°c within 3 hours, this is to
make sure that the seed was completely dry so that reduced problem persists during
concrete mixing. Mango seed was compatible to replace sand if the quantity use is
appropriate. The acceptable quantity of mango seed use in concrete to obtain 20 MPa
strength with ratio of 1:2:4 was 20 percent. If the amount of mango seed used in the
concrete mixture higher than 20 %, this would affect the concrete strength less than 20
MPa. The concrete that contained mango seed was different from the normal concrete in
physical properties and engineering properties. The surface of the concrete that
contained more than 20 % of mango seed was significantly dark and excessive amount
of mango seed will reduce the concrete strength, which was 11.974 MPa and 6.511 MPa
with replacement of 50% and 70% of mango seed respectively. The water absorption
was also increased, which was 11.11 and 9.57 with replacement of 50% and 70.7% of
mango seed respectively In conclusion, the optimum percentage of mango seed that can
replace sand is 20 %. | en_US |
