Properties of recycled aggregate concrete
Abstract
Utilization of recycled aggregate in concrete is useful for environmental
protection and economic. It is an important role to preserve the natural resources. This
study was carrying out to investigate the performance and properties of recycled
aggregate concrete. Several tests such as sieve analysis, compression, water absorption,
density and workability were conducted to compare with natural aggregate concrete.
The percentage used of recycled aggregate that replacement in concrete are 0%, 10%,
30% and 60%. Compression strength result of cube concrete may acceptable use
because the strength at each sample was achieved the best result more than 25 MPa
target at 28 days ages with value 38.024 MPa, 42.449 MPa, 35.859 MPa and 28.636
MPa. The best workability of recycled aggregate is 108 mm with 42.449 MPa strength
of concrete compared to other sample. The best result of water absorption rate is when
the value of water absorbs is not more than 10% and all of sample had achieved. Also
the particle size for two type of aggregate has nearly similar with natural aggregate
concrete. Texture and shape of aggregate also gave an affect of strength concrete in
compaction. To increase the strength of concrete are use constant water-cement ratio,
has an oven dried or recycled aggregate and aggregate should presoaked before used in mixture. Different percentage of coarse aggregate in this study was acceptable in
construction due to have achieved strength target, percentage of water absorption and
particle size analysis.
