This paper summarizes the current knowledge about the potential of LUSI mud volcano, East Java, Indonesia as a raw material in geopolymer. Previous experimental study shows that the LUSI mud has a good performance when 5% and 10% OPC was replaced by LUSI mud mixture. LUSI mud mixed with fly ash in certain composition has a potential to become a binder in geopolymer concrete. The chemical compositions of LUSI mud show high compounds of SiO2 and Al2O3 which quite similar to fly ash. The SEM results shows that LUSI mud was dominated by clay minerals with particles size less than 10 μm. However the particle shapes is contradict to fly ash with spherical shape, but LUSI mud has a plate-like structure as clay. LUSI mud also showed good performance in terms of strength as a cement replacement material with OPC and fly ash.
