Study on development of low cost binder for concrete
Abstract
The durability and strength of concrete can be seen on its damage done by human activities
and the effect by the environment. Moreover, concrete performance depends on the
capacity of the binder in the concrete mixture. Besides that, Good quality binder will give
high performance concrete, that produce high strength, long durability and construction and
environment friendly. This project studies the development of binder for concrete by using
the rice husk ash and the performance of the concrete by addition of glass waste particle by
testing in several experiments such as compression test, water absorption test and the
coefficient of water absorption test. The use of this additional material in the cement is to
reduce the cost of cement manufacturing. In industrial country, fuel ash are easier to get in
commercialize quantity compared to Malaysia, but in Malaysia agricultural fly ash is easy
to get in commercialize quantity. Therefore this report will explain the result of the
experiment on the suitability of rice husk ash as the binder to the concrete and also the
result when this binder is added with the glass waste. The study get that, the optimum
percentage for rice husk ash replacement is by 15% and in the combination of 25% rice
husk ash the optimum percent of glass waste that can give the high strength is by 10%.
