The study of soil properties of UniMAP Main Campus, Pauh
Abstract
The research has been done to study the soil properties of UniMAP, Campus Alam, Ulu Pauh. It is the new campus built for the development of the university, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, UniMAP. Physical properties of soil is an important for understanding the processes, which take place in a considered (elementary) soil volume and which have an impact on the environment. The importance of the study is to determine the soil strength and moisture content as well as to study the effect of climate to the soil sample taken. The soil undergoes 5 tests which are the plastic limit, moisture content, sieve analysis, consolidation, and triaxial shear test. The physical properties of the soil of the area play the biggest role in the development of the new campus due to the construction that happened. As the results, the soil were a well graded soil and suitable for the construction to be ongoing. The soils there were affected by the rains. It shows by the amount of moisture content in every sample that was taken. The soil shear strength had been determined and show the soils is in the best conditions. The coefficient of consolidation shows the rate of compression and the value shows the soil is in best condition. Physical properties of the soils will determine the soils action due to climate, weathering, construction and many more.
