Abstract: The output performances of vortex tube are mainly depending on the vortex tube parameters (length, diameter and angle). A study was carried out to investigate the relationship between the vortex tube parameters and the output performance of a vortex tube. Therefore, the objective is to study the effect of those vortex tube parameters on the output air temperature. The lowest temperature to be produced must be less than 10°C then Taguchi method was used to optimize the vortex tube parameters. So that the length, diameters and angle can be variable between 100mm and 200mm, 2mm and 8mm, 20° and 60°, respectively. Taguchi standard L9 orthogonal array was used to layout the experiment. From the analysis, the predicted optimal parameters was found in minimum temperature 1.4°C was 20° for valve angle, 6mm cold valve diameter, 6mm inlet valve diameter with 7 bar air pressure and maximum temperature 36.6°C was 20° valve angle, 6mm cold valve diameter, 5mm inlet valve diameter with 7 bar air pressure. Confirmation test was conduct to compare the result and shows that the angle generator was the most significant factors among other.
