Abstract: Malaysia is producing over 2 million tons of fly ash annually, which is expected to double by 2013 as demand for energy is growing very rapidly. The ash produced by burning coal is considered to be a waste product and the disposal of which poses mammoth problems. In Asia, the application of fly ash as filler in a paving block must noteworthy enough. Using fly ash as filler substitute in the construction of concrete and building can reap some unprecedented benefits like decreasing the material cost of cement, and it will be a feasible way of disposing off this industrial waste. It will also serve the purpose of sustainability by replacing the traditional mineral fillers like cement and hydrated lime, which need a lot of energy and resources to be produced. The objectives of this study were to evaluate and compare the performance of paving block pavement containing20 % fly ash, 40 % fly ash, and 60 % fly ash by the total weight of the filler content. An investigation was conducted to investigate the influence of utilization of fly ash as mineral filler replacement cement in paving block mixtures. To prove the strength of this a paving block, 200 mm × 100 mm × 90 mm block is produced in order to perform tests to compare the compressive strength of block. This study shows the results of sample properties at 7 and 28 days. The results were that the use of fly ash as a substitute for cement in the paving block is not strong and not suitable to be used to replace the existing block paving.
