Abstract: This project presents the effect of strain rate of steel material. Two different experiments are required in order to investigate the effect of strain rate of steel material. The first experiment is using Universal Testing Machine to investigate the effect of strain rate at static condition while the second experiment is using Split Hopkinson bar technique to investigate the effect of strain rate at dynamic condition. The behavior of material at high strain rates is important for application such as structural impact, automotive safety engineering, and metalworking. In automotive industries, steel has been used as material in some of component. Due to dynamic condition of strain rate occurrence during vehicle crash it is important to analyze the strength of component.
