This research is conducted to survey
the carbon dioxide emission from passenger car.
Passenger car is one of the largest shares of
internal combustion engine vehicle on the road
today. Therefore, they are also responsible for a
large proportion of the environmental pollution
such as the greenhouse gas emission. In this study
four cars of different ages were tested
experimentally for their carbon dioxide (CO2)
emission using the universal emission analyzer
machine. Based on the experimental results,
carbon dioxide emission index is proposed. The
index number will be a good indicator of CO2
emission level. From this research, it is clear that
the age of the car plays a significant role of carbon
dioxide emitted. Generally, older car emits more
carbon dioxide compared to newer car for the
same period of usage. This research also
highlights some solutions to reduce CO2 emission
from passenger cars. There are some possible
general solutions to reduce this emission. Using
alternative means of transport and wellmaintannace
of cars are just some of these
solutions.
