Non-parametric modeling and validation of a magnetorheological damper
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to present a sixth order polynomial approach to model the nonlinear hysteresis behavior of magnetorheological (MR) damper. The polynomial model is developed based on curve fitting from the experimental results and consists of a pair subsystem namely positive and negative acceleration. The positive and negative acceleration correspond to the upper and lower curves obtained from the experimental results. The hard points from each curve are fitted into polynomial equation in the form of damping force as the function of piston velocity. Then, the coefficients of polynomial function are linearized with respect to the input current applied to the damper coils. Therefore, two generalized polynomial equations are obtained for modeling the upper and lower curve. In simulation study, the polynomial model is compared with a well known non-parametric technique namely inverse model. From the simulation results, the sixth order polynomial model shows better performance in describing the non-linear hysteresis behavior of MR damper compared with inverse model.
