Harumanis is a juicy cultivar of mango (Mangifera indica L.) and among the most important mangoes in Perlis, whose production and quality are variable across the orchard. Traditionally Harumanis mango are characterized and classified into specific grades using morphological markers. Morphological characteristics are limited in number, have complex inheritance pattern, and are affected by environmental conditions. Contrary to this, molecular markers are practically unlimited in number, remain unaffected by the environment and growth conditions, and are simply inherited. Therefore, the present study was conducted to evaluate the performance of SSRs primer pairs for the analysis of genetic variation and inter-relationship between eight mango samples (5 Harumanis and 3 non-Harumanis). Simple sequence repeat (SSR) which is an efficient genetic marker for comparative genome mapping can be helpful in the classification of genotypes, germplasm resource utilization and breeding programs. Eight SSR markers were tested with five accessions of Harumanis samples and 3 non-Harumanis samples.en_US
