dc.description.abstractThis project is conducted to design and analyze the reinforced concrete structures in accordance with BS 8110 Part 1: 1997 and Eurocode 2 - Design of concrete structures for the purpose of comparison. The research is aim to achieve the objectives of completing the design analysis for reinforced concrete structures by applying both codes of practice, BS 8110 and Eurocode 2, and thus to compare their design results and total costs. Results and conclusions show that the comparison fulfills the research objectives. Additionally, a few parameters such as design working life, fire resistance, ultimate limit state, serviceability limit state, different loading types (dead load and live load) and size of structures were considered significantly to clarify their influences in design. From the result acquired, it shows that design procedures based on Eurocode 2 is much easier than BS 8110. Meanwhile, the design based on Eurocode 2 came out with smaller size of structural elements compare to BS 8110. Therefore, it can be stipulated that Eurocode 2 provide conservative and economical design compare to BS 8110 as the total cost of elements from BS 8110 is higher than Eurocode 2. For improving the project, all types of reinforced concrete structures including retaining wall, ribbed slabs and waffle slabs are recommended to be designed for further research.en_US
