The effect of river meandering on average manning's roughness and muskingum constants
Abstract
Although much research has been done based on Manning’s roughness coefficient and Muskingum constant, but these values tend to change especially river undergo meandering process. In this study, the aims are to determine Manning’s roughness and
Muskingum constant at the different parts of the selected meandered section of Arau River, and to characterize the river flow behavior at different divided river parts. These values are determined from the river average velocity. From the study, both the values of Manning’s roughness and Muskingum constant increases as the stream flows to meandered section. At meandered part, the river stream behave with higher level of irregularity compared to linear section due to more vortex formed within the meandered section. River section with higher values of Manning’s roughness coefficient and Muskingum constant tend to have higher level of erosion.
