Development of computer model for free water surface (FWS) design system in manmade wetland
Abstract
Man-made wetland is a man-made system or engineered wetland that are designed, built and operated to imitate function of natural wetland. Usually, man-made wetland is used to provide tertiary treatment to municipal wastewater as an alternative to conventional methods. Only free water surface system will be discussed in this paper. The use of computer software such as MATLAB gives a big help in implementing computer model in these system. The purpose of this project is to review and compile the design approached for FWS system and develop the computer model for designers that will design the new man-made wetland. Hence, this
paper is aimed to provide a computer modelling to design the FWS system by neglecting the need to do the manual calculation. Then, the designer just need to get the parameter that will involve and enter the value in the program. The result that can be obtained in the program is
the area and the hydraulic loading rate for the man-made wetland. By proposing this research, the designer can obtain the information about the FWS man-made wetland easily. The time that can be consumed by cutting the need to do the manually calculation and giving the benefit
to the designer that will use these computer models.
