    Abstract
Government of Malaysia had introduced the fifth source of energy which is the renewable energy in the 8th Malaysia Plan to overcome the limited fossil fuels. Utilization of wind energy as an energy source is one of the most promising renewable energy sources of electrical power in the near term. In the present study, wind energy potential in Kangar, Perlis, Malaysia (site located at Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy, 6.431⁰ N, 100.185⁰ E) has been observed. The wind data used in the study were based on 6 months measured hourly time-series wind speed data using Davis Vantage Pro2 Weather Station. According to the power calculations done for the site, the monthly average power density between August 2011 to January 2012 was 9.189853 W/m2 with December were the northeast monsoon falls was the highest power density of 22.32474416 W/m2. The result indicates that the site has fairly wind energy potential for the utilization.
