Assessment of medium ductility low rise reinforced concrete building in high seismicity region
Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the response of regular and irregular in
elevation on medium ductility low rise reinforcement concrete buildings located at high
seismicity region. Two families of reinforcement concrete frames were designed and
examined. The first set of frames known as Frame A is regular in elevation frames while
the second set known as Frame is irregular in elevation frames. Both sets of frames were
designed in accordance with the requirement of Eurocode 2 and Eurocode 8. A basic
Push Over Analysis was employed to examine all these frames. Based on capacity curve,
the ductility factors and overstrength factors were discussed. The differences in terms of
the responses and geometry of these two sets of frames are significant. It is found that
Eurocode 8 frames have higher ductility factor compared to Eurocode 2 frames. Other
than that, the cross sections for beams and columns of Eurocode 8 frames are bigger
than those in Eurocode 2 frames. Besides that, it is found that the overstrength factors
for Eurocode 8 frames are lower than the Eurocode 2 frames.
