The treatment of coconut shell (CS) with sodium hydroxide on properties of Polyester/CS composites has been carried out. The results showed that the treatment using sodium hydroxide indicates higher in tensile strength and modulus of elasticity of the composites but lower in break elongation. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) micrograph of fracture tensile surface revealed that the treated Polyester/CS composites show better filler dispersion and interaction in matrix compared to untreated Polyester/CS composites. The chemical treatment using NaOH can improve the interfacial adhesion between matrix and filler, and this attribute enhance the properties of Polyester/CS composites.
