In this paper, engine performance of pickup diesel engine was studied under chassis dynamometer test with the simulation of road load condition. A direct injection engine was examined by mixing different multi-functional additives in diesel fuel and palm biodiesel blends. The basic properties of test fuel blended with TiO2 and bio-soultion based additives were measured according to ASTM standard. Adding the bio-solution based additive in test fuel results in a decrease in viscosity by 4.62% and an increase in flash point above 82°C comparing with test fuel without additive. Moreover, the existence of organic based composition in the additive presents a significant reduction in carbon residue as low as 0.0002 % by weight. However, Paraffin-Xylene and polymer based additive and TiO2 metal based additive result in a large amount of carbon substance residues. In the term of engine performance test, the multifunctional additives to be added in diesel present higher improvement in the maximum brake power than adding in B5-POB fuel. For B5 palm biodeisel and the test fuel with additives, the maximum torque occurs on the wider speed range between 2000 rpm and 3000 rpm which leads to low brake specific fuel comsumption.en_US
