dc.description.abstract | Industrial mathematics means mathematics for
industry. It is a fast growing field within the
mathematical sciences. It is characterized by the
origin of the problems, which it engages, and they all
come from industry. It has very wide applications in
general as well as for specific purposes. Applied
mathematics and industrial mathematics work in
tandem with the high level industry poised for
innovation. An industrial mathematician should
possess the ability to model and formulate an
industrial problem in mathematical terms, so that he
can face and tackle the same by applying appropriate
techniques. Mathematics departments are keenly
aware of the present problems faced by the industry
and the necessity of mathematics to deal with them.
Mathematical skills are required at many levels,
because we are living in a technological society. This
paper highlights the scope and application of
industrial mathematics in engineering industries to
solve the complicated engineering problems faced
globally. Information is presented on the history,
emphasis, salient features, scope and applications of
this advanced branch of applied mathematics in a
systematic manner. Some of the key research areas in
science and engineering where industrial
mathematics is applied are mentioned precisely for
easy understanding. A few key notes on the
development, application and importance of
mathematical models in the modern engineering
industries for mathematics in industry are also
discussed briefly. | en_US |
