Bioplastic Composites of Pineapple Leaf Fibers with Biopolymer
Abstract
Awareness of global warning is critical now-a-days due to increment of non-biodegradable plastic disposal into the tandfill. This matter has rise the attention of scientists to produce biodegradable plastic replacing those petroleum based plastic. Discovery of natural fiber proved that it was qualified to be the filler in plastic formation by reinforcement process with polymer. Thus, pineapple leaves which are the waste after post-harvest activities have been salvaged for value-added process. Pineapple leaf fibers (PALF) will fortified with polilactic acid (PLA), the matrix to form bioplastic with better mechanical performances and perform biodegradable characteristic.
