Designing mini model of wind turbine blades based on Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine model

Abstract

Wind turbine is a rotating machine which converts the kinetic energy in wind into mechanical energy then is converts to electrical energy using electrical generator. A prototype development of Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine is produce with the purpose to design a mini model of wind turbine blades based on Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine model and to build mini model of Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine that can produce electricity. This project consists of several processes starting from designing process, material selection installation and testing. Airplane winglet wing and propeller has been choosing as wind turbine blade design. Two type of testing is used to run Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine model; Output voltage testing and L.E.D testing. Higher number of blade produce more output voltage. The optimum angle to harvest kinetic energy from wind source in this project is 45°. The comparison between two designs of wind turbine blades shows that Twist blade is a better design compare to Winglet blade. For overall, this project is successful and able to produce electricity from wind source.
