Solvent free extraction for moringa oil
Abstract
Moringa oil derives from the seeds of Moringa oleifera. The colour of the oil were pale yellow at room temperature and were not undergoing the chemical treatment and RBD process (refining, bleaching and deodorizing). Moringa oil is certainly high health benef its. The moringa oil is rich in saturated fatty acid. Therefore this ht project was carried out to observe the impact of heating on moringa oil towards it fatty acid composition. Separation of moringa oil was done by heating the moringa oil at 110℃, 190℃ and 280℃ under vacuum pressure. The fatty acid composition was analyzed using a gas chromatogr aphy. By using solventless extraction under vacuum pressure technique, the fatty acids that able to be extracted at 280℃ are myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, linoleic acid, arachidic acid and lignoceric acid.
