This project is focused on the effect of solvent on the properties of Poly (Methyl Methacrylate) (PMMA) composites filled with palm kernel shell (PKS). The PMMA/PKS composites with different filler loading were prepared by using solvent casting method. The effect solvent was investigated by using acetone and dichloromethane. All the composites were characterized by using tensile test, SEM, water absorption test and FTIR. The results indicated the tensile strength for both solvent acetone and dichloromethane shows that PMMA/PKS composites shows that dichloromethane have higher tensile strength compare acetone. The elongation at break shows that PMMA/PKS composites with dichloromethane have high break elongation compare acetone. Low elongation at break shows more brittleness. Modulus of elasticity of PMMA/PKS with dichloromethane was lower compare acetone. Increasing the temperature of solvents will increasing the brittleness and decreasing of properties of PMMA/PKS composites. The gap between PMMA and PKS pulled out was observed on the fracture surface of PMMA/PKS composites. The rough surface of PMMA/PKS composites with dichloromethane shows that brittle behaviour. Based on water absorption, the water absorption was increased with the filler loading and immersion time. The PKS have tendency to absorb water because PKS have many hydroxyl group. Dichloromethane solvent showed that better mechanical properties in term on tensile strength and also in morphological studies.en_US
