    Abstract
Wastewater that has been discharged from industrial usually contains high level of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), and Suspended Solid (SS). Chemical oxygen demand is toxic substances that can effect biological life and give some negative significant to aquatic environment. The study was carried out to investigate the effectiveness of bio-augmentation of chemical oxygen demand (COD) on industrial effluent. The activated sludge and rubber effluent was collected from Shorubber (Malaysia) SDN BHD at Jejawi Industrial Area in Perlis. The parameter of experiment was set to test bio-augmentation effect on sample concentration, bacteria dosage and contact time. The coccus family bacteria were successfully isolated and have been used for this study. The COD concentration level was reducing until 80% with 200ppm sample concentration and 6ml bacteria dosage with 21 days contact time. These new and effective effluent treatment methods would minimize environmental pollution of effluent and bring it to become sustainable and environmental friendly.
