    Abstract
Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a worldwide health problem until now. Larviciding is one effective way to stop the Aedes aegypti breeding and spreading dengue fever. Larvicides are widely used in Malaysia, known as abate powder. Until now, in some countries has been widely abate’s resistance subsided, but in Malaysia there is no report to prove. Many ways are done to seek alternative larvacidal, one of them is the use of Banana Trunk. This research was done to know the difference of larvacidal potency betwen banana trunk extract and abate against Aedes aegypti’s larvae. Samples were taken from dengue area around Perlis. Samples were divided into 5 separated dosages which are 2 ppm, 4 ppm, 6 ppm, 8 ppm and 10 ppm for the banana trunk extract. There were 25 larvae in each larvicidal testing. Results obtained when banana trunk extract’s and abate are kills the larvae after 24 hours, 48 hours, and 72 hours. Each sample of banana trunk show positive result where the entire sample produces either banana trunk powder or banana trunk liquid extraction resulted in death or aedes aegypti more than 50% of the overall aedes tested and achieves 100% effectiveness with different concentration. However it is lower than abate effectiveness which is abate kill more than 90% of the aedes aegypti tested. Even though the effectiveness of banana trunk either banana trunk powder or banana trunk extraction is lower than effectiveness of abate, but it still can be considered successful because this sample originally organic material.
