Study of heat transfer characteristics of Sio2 nanoparticles in heat pipes
Abstract
This project deal with study of heat transfer characteristics of silicon oxide, SiO2 in heat
pipe. To achieve better performance of heat pipe, increasing its efficiency is a challenge
nowadays. Effects of implementation of nanoparticles on efficiency of heat pipe have
been studied in this project. Concept of heat transfer applied in order to analyse
characteristics of nanofluid. The main objective of this project was to study the effect of
nanoparticles on the performance of thermosyphon by focusing on its specific heat
capacity. For this project, a test rig was fabricated and nanofluids were prepared using
SiO2 nanoparticle and water. Steps and processes on test rig fabrication have been
explained clearly. After conducting the experiment, the results were analysed and
briefly discussed. It is observed that as concentration of nanofluid increases, specific
heat capacity were decreased and lead to rise in efficiency. Thermal performance of
thermosyphon with nanofluid had better heat enhancement compared to water and this
resulted in low power consumption.
