The effect of projectile travelling at Hypervelocity onto solid metal target
Abstract
This project is about to study the effect of projectile travelling at hypervelocity onto solid
metal target. The method is used to control the projectile speed by using explosion in different
mass of commercial explosive as an explosion material. The amount of explosive will give
impact to projectile to accelerate at hypervelocity and hit the target after explosion happen. The
parameter setting such as amount of explosive, material and shape of projectile, material of solid
metal target and shaped charge play an important role to control the pressure after an explosion.
The parameter also to ensure that the projectile accelerate at hypervelocity speed and hit the
target well. ANSYS AUTODYN software is used to make the simulation and to identify the
ideal parameter setting during conduct the real experiment. The simulation data also investigated
by using theoretically and numerically method. Expected result is the crater occur at target
surface is depend on the projectile shape. The ogive nose shape of projectile is more efficient
compare to blunt and hemispherical nosed shape. Besides, the higher amount of explosive will
generate the higher energy. Lastly, the design of projectile shape and high impact penetrator is
used in simulation to obtain the information required in this project.
