Improvement of filter paper packing defects using Lean and Six Sigma approaches
Abstract
The black dot defect is a condition where coffee powder melt on filter paper
while producing coffee sachet. This study was conducted in order to reduce black dot
defect in producing coffee sachet by using Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) at
the small medium enterprise (SME) food industry. This study focus on the packaging
process area because the black dot defect are occurred during perform the filter paper
packaging machine in packaging process area. Based on the observation, several
potential causes and problem is identified which can lead to the black dot defect in
producing coffee sachet. In order to encounter this problem, the Lean Six Sigma
Approaches and DMAIC method are used. The improvement strategy is implemented at
the packaging process and the data before and after improvement are analysed in order
to reduce the black dot defect. This project will reduced the black dot defects in
producing coffee sachets with implemented the improvement at packaging process and
directly increases the quality of the product.
