Design improvement on hip standing support for Cerebral Palsy children’s
Abstract
The aim on this research project is to study the design device for cerebral palsy children
to sit, stand and walk independently besides to improve the posture to avoid any hip dislocation.
The existing product does not have any ergonomic criteria and one equipment is only specialized
for one activity which difficult for the children and trainer to transfer from one equipment to
another. It is not practical and dangerous for the cerebral palsy children. Besides that, the
existing product also lack of specification to correct the posture of hip. Therefore the objective
of this final year project is to design user friendly equipment for sitting, standing and walking for
cerebral palsy children. Site visit and interview has been done with the occupational therapist
and physiotherapist that assist the children during their treatment. The result of the site visit and
interview resulting that most of the children have problem with hip dislocation and difficulties to
assist children to sit, walk and stand. Thus a study of the mechanism on the existing product is
study so that it can be applied onto the new design. ZURB’s Design is being used as guidelines
to design a product. A suggestion from the trainer also is being gathered in order to apply it as
customer requirement on the product. Besides that, an analysis toward the stiffness of spring as
well as friction of wheel and analysis of detail drawing is being done in order to determine that
the design is a good design and the design is a success
