Energetic analysis on C3MR process for liquefaction of Natural Gas using open source software
Abstract
Due to the increasing demand for natural gas in the world today, transportation of natural
gas from different parts of the world has become a necessity. Liquefaction of natural gas
provides a safer and cheaper alternative for transportation and also increases its storage
capacities. The liquefaction process requires the natural gas to be cooled by various systems
of cryogenic processes and it is set to atmospheric conditions for easier and safer storage.
This paper analyzes C3MR process for the liquefaction of natural gas based on the energetic
analysis. The research has some problems need to be considered, such as limitation in the
use of open source software, DWSIM and high price of paid software, Aspen Plus to
undergo the analysis and simulation with regards to the thermodynamic factor. The
objective also must be considered, such as the data from software, the values of enthalpy
and entropy and the energetic efficiency. There are several methods need to be considered
such as by understanding the use of DWSIM software. Besides that, the assumptions and
specifications given for simulating the C3MR process should be followed and the process
flow of C3MR should be understood. After simulating the C3MR process by DWSIM
software, the results of enthalpy and entropy must be tabulated and compared with the
results of enthalpy and entropy from other software in order to obtain the graph of P-h
diagram and T-s diagram. The other results such as power required by compressor, heat
rates of heat exchange should also be tabulated. The energetic efficiency must be calculated
and compared with the energetic efficiency from the previous work to see whether the
improvement has been made or not. As a conclusion, all the objectives must be achieved, in
order to decide whether the research is success or vice versa.
