Investigation on Geometric parameter of floating platform movement using air pressure
Abstract
A floating platform in the air is widely used in the industry nowadays. This platform
is used as the transportation medium for some industries or parties. The problem that always
occurs for transporting loads previously is the vibration that can affect the quality of the
product. Therefore, the concept of non-contacting between surfaces of platform achieved
almost zero friction can extend the life span of the product. This study is to investigate the
geometric parameter of floating platform movement using air pressure. The development of
design parameters of platform without external forces applied is investigated with the
configuration of feeding holes on platform, the variation of load applied, and the pressure
used. The distances moved and times taken of movement by platform are analysed for
locomotion in mid-air without external forces applied. Designed platform with 6 bar of air
pressure supply showed the shortest time taken for the platform to reach at the set up
distance.
