    Abstract
Bio-ethanol is biofuel which has been used to replace fossil fuels. It does not pollute to the environment and is very clean and renewable energy source. The ethanol production is high on demand recently to replace non-renewable energy source. Besides, waste from lignocellulose which contain glucose and xylose, should be utilized well especially xylose which normally cannot be digested by majority of yeast. Therefore, study on xylose consumption and ethanol production was under investigation. Pichia kudriavzevii P1-31 are able to grow at certain temperature from 30 ℃ till 46 ℃, while it cannot grew and died at 50 ℃. During fermentation, ethanol was produced at each temperature, but the highest ethanol yield and highest xylose consumption was at 30 ℃ , which obtained around 2.7667 g/L. At elevated temperature, the ethanol yield and xylose consumption was getting lower also. This may due to the heat stress given to the strains that caused low efficiency. Xylitol and glycerol also produced at the same time, xylose was easily been converted to xylitol compare to ethanol. From this study, Pichia kuadriavzevii P1-31 are able to consume xylose and produce ethanol even in low amount at high temperature.
