The thermal properties of aluminium hydroxide as filler in recycled PP composite
Abstract
This study is about the composite of recycled polypropylene (RPP) composites filled with
aluminium hydroxide (Al(OH)3) . Maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene (MAPP) was
also used as compatibilizer between filler and matrix to improved the bonding between
recycled polypropylene (RPP) matrix and aluminium hydroxide (Al(OH)3). The RPP
composite were compounded using z blade mixer with rotor speed 50 rpm. The
characterization of RPP was done by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR).
Thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) were conducted to study the thermal properties of PP
composite. TGA curve exhibited a significant improvement in thermal properties behavior
of RPP composite under the effect of different aluminium hydroxide (Al(OH)3 filler loading
(0, 20, 30, 40 wt %) with and without maleic anhydride-grafted polypropylene (MAPP)
coupling agent. For DSC analysis, the results show that the melting temperature (Tm) the
increasing filler loading.
