Electrically small mimo antenna for 4G/LTE terminal
Abstract
One of the advantages of Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system is the significant
increase in data rate compared to the single antenna version. Implementation of multiple antenna structure requires considerable amount of space, by taking into account coupling between the antennas. Therefore, antennas should be small (compared to wavelength) and strategically placed on the terminal ground plane to avoid high mutual coupling. The aim of this project is to design and fabricate an antennas with low mutual coupling for 4G/LTE mobile terminal. The operational
frequencies at low band and high bands are 698-960 MHz and 1710-2690 MHz, respectively. It is
expected that the proposed antenna solution can meet the specification of 4G/LTE antennas to
support a vast range of capabilities of the future wireless communication networks. The project
brings the opportunity to progressively familiar with the latest antenna engineering for mobile
terminals, understand some practical industry constraints, and also discuss and imagine the basic
concepts of next generation systems.
