UniMAP guide: an android based mobile UniMAP interactive map application
Abstract
Nowadays, smart mobile devices are far more than merely devices to
communicate with. Especially, smart mobile devices help to make our daily life and work
easier. Based on new technologies like GPS and Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi) support and
with 3 or 4G network, location based application are developed which can be access
through these smart mobile devices. In the project, an Android based mobile navigation
application which named as UniMAP Guide is developed. Some of the commercial
navigation apps like Google Map does not provide detailed route within UniMAP main
campus area. Furthermore, UniMAP campus is a distributed around Perlis state, therefore
user may easily get lost. In conclude with those problems served as strong motivation to
develop navigation apps. In addition to that UniMAP Guide also provide the point of
interest around Perlis. UniMAP Guide is developed by using Android Software
Development Kit (SDK). The integrated development environment (IDE) which is
officially supported for Android apps development and used in this project is Eclipse,
which uses the Android Development tools (ADT) plugin. UniMAP Guide is successfully
developed and could be installed and tested by using real smart mobile devices. The
problem that facing by users can be solved by using this apps as this app enable the user
finding the route to specific locations inside and outside the main campus. With the
navigation provided within this app, user not easily get lost because the starting point of
each navigation is determined by the current location of the user and this apps also will
reroute if user turn into wrong route.
