Effect of quarry dust on concrete performance
Abstract
The quarry dust is a waste material at the quarry site after the stone is crushed. To reduce the waste material in this world, reuse it is one of the solutions. So that the waste product will not be as a harmful material or rubbish that can messed up world. The quarry dust will be used as partial replacement for cement proportion based on percentage. The cost for cement is higher and expensive. With the used of this quarry dust as a partial replacement for cement proportion, its can reduce some cost using for concrete mixture. Quarry dust is used as the main material in this project to measure the effectiveness on concrete performance. This quarry dust shows some similar characteristics with the Ordinary Portland Cement that used as the partial replacement in cement ratio of concrete mixture after doing the x-ray fluorescent spectrometry test. The concrete is also measured by three different percentages of quarry dust in cement ratio which are 25%, 30% and 35% using compressive strength test. It shows that the 30% of quarry dust is the optimum percentage that can be used in concrete mixture to reduce some cost of the cement. The result of the compressive strength test shows that the strength 30% of quarry dust concrete is achieved the target of the optimum percentage when it can be compare with the strength of the control concrete. From this research, it can be concluded that this project is success and has achieved the objectives. The significant of this project can be seen after obtaining the optimum percentage of quarry dust in concrete mixture.
