International Conference on Applications and Design in Mechanical Engineering 2012 (ICADME 2012) organized by School of Mechatronic Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), 27th - 28th Februari 2012 at Bayview Beach Resort, Penang, Malaysia.en_US
In this research, the finite element method (FEM) is applied to analyze the drillstring vibration. The contact between different parts of the drillstring and the borehole wall has been considered which was ignored by other FEM formulations. The finite element formulation is then integrated into a computational scheme for calculating the natural frequencies of the drillstring, the capability of the developed computational scheme tested for dynamic response calculations. Comparisons are made wherever possible with recorded results available in the literature.en_US
