Mobile IP is standard protocol to support mobility for today and future networks, although it suffers from handoff delay when a mobile node changes its point of attachment in the network. This delay might cause packet loss resulting interruption for various types of applications especially real-time applications. In this research, we conducted a performance evaluation of Mobile IPv6 and fast handover to investigate the parameters of mobile node in both protocols during handover. The study was carried out using an open source Network Simulator ns-2 to study and analyse the behaviour of fast handover and Mobile IPv6 protocols based on various parameters such as throughput, and handoff latency.en_US
