Evaluation of RC-2, RC-8, and MR297 seeds morphological features selected
Abstract
A high yield of paddy production for Malaysian paddy industry was very important to improve the cultivated rice seeds. This project presents an evaluation of RC-2, RC-8 and MR297 seeds morphological characteristics using principal component analysis (PCA). Rice seeds of different varieties are visually very similar in, shape, colour and texture that make the classification of rice seed varieties at high accuracy challenging. Total 240 rice seeds was evaluated quanti tative and quality traits by principal component analysis for determining the pattern of variation, relationship among individuals and their characteristics. Next, this study will be carried out to evaluatbe morphological features of local rice seed varieties developed for Malaysian rice indusdtry using principal component analysis. Type of rice seed, mainly are RC-2, RC-8 and MR297 used in this study. A manual method using electronic digital calipers and electronic analytical digital scale was used to measure and weighted four main morphology characteristics which are length, width, weight and thickness. The extracted data were analyzes in terms of its spread and variability. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) with one way is a collection of statistical models and their associated estimation procedures used to analyze the differences among group means in a sample was done to compare the means of the morphological features using Minitab 17 software. Thus, it is necessary to classify the cultivated rice seed by combinations of selected morphological parameters.
